6 Horse Christmas Movies to Watch this Season

It’s the perfect time of year to snuggle up by the fireplace and watch a horse Christmas movie. With the number of movies and streaming services, it can be tricky to find entertaining, family-friendly equestrian movies. We’ve made it easy with a list of our favorites currently streaming on Amazon Prime, Netflix, and Hulu this year. Grab a mug of hot cocoa, get cozy, and tune into these classics.

Christmas Ranch

If you like a good underdog story with an angsty teenager, the Christmas Ranch might be the perfect movie for you. When Lizzie, a rebellious girl, is sent to stay with her grandmother in Maryland, she is surprised to find friendship with her grandmother’s pony, Hope. When she discovers her grandmother will lose the ranch, Lizzie must find a Christmas miracle to help save the ranch from foreclosure.

Rodeo & Juliet

Is anyone up for a fun mix of cheesy and horses? Think classic Hallmark movie with a horsey twist. When Juliet heads to her grandfather’s struggling ranch in Louisiana for the holidays, the last thing she expected was to find adventure. She meets a palomino Quarter Horse named Rodeo and a young cowboy who will change her life. When Juliet finds out the farm doesn’t have the money to keep Rodeo, she enters the local Christmas barrel rance to win the prize money.

The Christmas Foal

When the Hanlon family gets lost on the way to their Aunt’s house, they meet cowgirl Bonnie Kate. This cowgirl is helping to protect a herd of wild horses from local thieves. The Hanlon’s and Bonnie Kate race against time to find the oldest pregnant mares when she’s stolen. Hopefully, they can find her before the foal is born.

The Christmas Miracle at Sage Creek

This uplifting Western classic is set in scenic Wyoming and follows the story of two feuding horse-rustling families forced to work together when disaster strikes. This movie has an underlying message of faith and is filled with action and suspense to keep you on the edge of your seat!

A Heartland Christmas

Based on novels by Lauren Brookie, A Heartland Christmas follows the adventures of two sisters and their life on a horse ranch in the Alberta Rocky Mountains. This festive film explores the true meaning of family and Christmas when the family works together to free a herd of horses trapped in an avalanche.

My Broken Horse Christmas

This brief 35-minute movie is what you’ve been looking for if you’re short on time and need some festive entertainment. When John’s father buys the meanest, wildest mare for their barn, John is confused. John quickly learns faith and the meaning of redemption as his father teaches him true purpose and the power of grace.

We hope you enjoy one-two-or-more of these holiday horse movies! But, you don’t have to be limited to holiday movies. Winter is a great time to visit some equine classics like Seabiscuit, Secretariat, or National Velvet!
